As a growing restaurant brand, CAVA has demonstrated that business growth and social impact can go hand in hand. Greyston Bakery is proud to supply the Greyston Brownie and Greyston Blondie featured on CAVA’s dessert menu, and we appreciate CAVA’s commitment to quality, guest experience, and community impact.
While we don’t speak on behalf of CAVA, its recently published 2025 Impact Update offers a glimpse into how CAVA approaches its relationships with the communities it serves, its employees, customers, and suppliers. It also provides valuable lessons for restaurant operators and foodservice suppliers alike.
The report reinforces an important idea that shapes the restaurant industry: purpose and performance don’t have to be separate business objectives; they can work together to drive results. Today’s restaurant brands have an opportunity to invest in people, communities, responsible sourcing, and trusted supplier relationships while building strong, sustainable businesses.
Investing in People Creates Better Workplaces
Restaurant growth is often measured by new locations, increased sales, or menu innovation. CAVA’s 2025 Impact Update highlights another important investment: people, through leadership development, expanded employee benefits, learning opportunities, and an inclusive workplace culture for its team members. In 2025, CAVA launched a people-development platform focused on helping team members build long-term careers.
For restaurant operators, this reinforces a simple but powerful truth: investing in employees can help create better guest experiences, stronger operations, and healthier organizations—and can be an important part of an overall growth strategy, not separate from it.
At Greyston Bakery, opportunity is also central to our business model. Through our pioneering Open Hiring model, we remove traditional barriers to employment for individuals who are ready to work but may be held back by their background.
We provide quality baked desserts to our customers while advancing a meaningful social mission. We believe investing in people by providing job opportunities and training isn’t simply good citizenship—it’s good business and the right thing to do.
Greyston Bakery has been practicing Open Hiring since the mid-1980s. We also intentionally maintain a hands-on production environment, balancing technology and automation with opportunities for people to develop skills, build careers and provide for themselves and their families.
Strong Supplier Relationships Drive Long-Term Success
Another theme throughout CAVA’s report is the importance of thoughtful sourcing and long-term supplier relationships. CAVA works with more than 50 trusted grower, rancher and producer partners. Responsible sourcing, equitable supply chains, food waste reduction, and consistent quality all require suppliers that can support these goals.
Restaurant operators expect much more than great products. They need dependable partners who deliver consistent quality, reliable delivery, food safety, innovation, and the flexibility to grow alongside their restaurant business. The strongest supplier relationships are built on trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement.
Responsible Sourcing Starts with the Supply Chain
Responsible sourcing is another area where restaurant brands and their suppliers can make a meaningful difference. CAVA’s publicly stated sourcing principles emphasize more responsible and equitable practices throughout its supply chain, including a commitment to working with suppliers who share its business values.
Greyston Bakery shares that commitment through the ingredients we source for the products we supply to foodservice customers, including CAVA. The Greyston Brownie and Greyston Blondie served at CAVA are made with Fairtrade sugar, supporting a supply chain designed to promote fairer trading relationships and better support for farmers and workers.
CAVA’s approach to reducing food waste demonstrates how sustainability can be integrated into everyday restaurant operations. For example, the company finds another use for aquafaba, the liquid left after preparing chickpeas, rather than discarding it. At Greyston Bakery, we take a similar approach by providing our food waste to a company that processes it with additional nutrients into chicken feed, giving materials that might otherwise be discarded a productive second use.
For us, responsible sourcing isn’t just about the finished product—it’s about considering the people, communities and resources behind it. Thoughtful sourcing decisions can contribute to a broader commitment to responsible business.
Purpose Strengthens Customer Loyalty
Consumers increasingly seek out brands whose values align with their own. CAVA’s Impact Report Update highlights community engagement, charitable giving, food donations, volunteer initiatives, and sustainability efforts as important components of its long-term approach to impact. Greyston Bakery also supports our community by donating baked goods to food pantries, soup kitchens, and local nonprofit organizations.
Purpose-driven initiatives can do more than benefit communities—they can help build authentic brands that customers want to engage with and support. At Greyston Bakery, our mission has always been larger than baking brownies. Every product we make helps create employment opportunities through our inclusive Open Hiring model, showing how a foodservice supplier can contribute to both operational success and positive social and economic impact. Our founder created Greyston Bakery in 1982 to provide employment opportunities for people in the community facing barriers to employment. That principle remains central to our mission today: through Open Hiring, people can access a job opportunity without an interview, background check, or résumé, whether they have a history of incarceration, have been out of the workforce, or have faced other circumstances that can make finding a job difficult.
Suppliers Can Help Advance Restaurant Goals—and Restaurants Can Help Advance Supplier Goals
Restaurant operators increasingly look for supplier partners that align with their own priorities. While product quality, consistency, and service remain essential, suppliers can also contribute to sustainability and social impact through responsible sourcing, operational excellence, workforce development, and community investment.
At Greyston Bakery, we also benefit from the growth of our foodservice and retail customers. Our ongoing relationship with CAVA creates production volume, which in turn supports employment and training opportunities at our bakery. As our bakers gain experience, some advance into other roles within the organization, including general management, production leadership, quality assurance, R&D, and supply chain.
It’s a mutually beneficial relationship sustained by quality products and valued employees: CAVA receives desserts that meet the needs of its guests and operations, while Greyston Bakery creates jobs, develops talent, and provides pathways for career growth in the community.
Looking Ahead
We value our relationship and the opportunity to have Greyston Brownies and Blondies featured on CAVA’s dessert menu. While our role is to provide consistently delicious desserts that meet CAVA’s operational and guest needs, we also appreciate the values we share.
As more restaurant companies incorporate sustainability and social impact into their operations, organizations that invest in people, build trusted supplier partnerships, and create positive community impact alongside menu development and financial growth are positioning themselves for long-term success and customer satisfaction.
For restaurant operators, choosing supplier partners who share those values can strengthen not only the menu, but also the story behind every guest experience.
At Greyston Bakery, we believe every dessert has the potential to do more than satisfy a craving. Our brownies and blondies create opportunity while demonstrating that business success and social impact truly can grow together—with benefits for our bakery, our community, and our customer partners.
